Students

Everything we do in Student ministry revolves around this:

Together, we will win youth to Christ, establish them in their faith, and train them for ministry to the world and leadership in the church, ’that we may present everyone complete in Christ. (Colossians 1:28)

Student ministry with GFMC is a great place for students to grow in community with other students and explore and deepen their faith.  We meet weekly on Wednesday nights from 6:45-8, and Sunday mornings at 9:45.

FMY Calendar

High School 9-12 Grades

Large Group Gatherings (Key word “WIN”)

Fall Retreat — Every fall (usually October) we go to a State Park or Youth Group Camping area for a weekend away.  On some years we do a ‘Serve the City’ urban

experience in place of fall retreat.

Potosi — In the Spring (normally April) we go to the YMCA of the Ozarks, near Potosi, Missouri, for a spring retreat. This is one of our group traditions, dating back a number of years.

Mid-Size groups (Key word “ESTABLISH”)

Wednesday Night is the hub of our programming. The entire group comes together for in-depth Bible study, teaching, worship, and “group life.” Every Wednesday at 6:45 we touch base with each other and with God. The FMY leaders are responsible for this time of growing and learning.

Growth Class — We have a high school class which meets every Sunday morning from 9:45 – 10:45.

Small Groups (Key word “TRAIN”)

Discipleship Groups, or D-Groups, are small (4 to 10 teens) “same sex” groups aimed at application in a Christian’s life. The adult leaders weekly facilitate accountability, care, and “content.” The “content” can be Bible Study, book study, devotions, prayer,

ministry, outreach, or any one of a number of things.

Camp Counselors — Counseling at Durley Camp in the summer is a great opportunity to get involved in ministry.

Cycle the Seaway! Falls to the Fort Bike Trip 2026

Equipment: A complete list will be provided later, but the essentials are a bike in excellent working order (does not need to be NEW, and a road bike is the best), helmet, water sources, flag (I will provide), mirror, toe clips, small repair kit and a small bike bag.

Trip Style: This is a supported trip with our vehicles carrying all our gear. We ride 50-80 miles per day in small riding groups with an adult leader on a mix of roads and bike trails. We stay in hotels and campgrounds and we do most of our own cooking. Everyone will be assigned to a clean up crew and students will also be asked to partner with one or two others to lead in devotions on an assigned day.

Training: Begins on March 23. I provide a training schedule which includes individual and group rides. In our group rides we will learn safety, courtesy, rules of the road and group dynamics.

Attractions: This bike trip has it all: stunning scenery, cityscapes, and new cultures. We’ll experience Niagara Falls, Montmorency Falls, Lake Ontario, St Lawrence seaway, chocolate croissants, crepes, poutine, maple taffy, and Tim Horton’s donuts, 1000 islands boat tour, Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City’s Old Town, streetcars, castles, Canadian wildlife, and much more! Allons-y!

Bible Quizzing

Bible Quizzing is a ministry that encourages 6th through 12th grade students to study and memorize Scripture through competition. Each year a specific portion of scripture is chosen and quizzers will study that text in weekly increments throughout the school year. The competition comes when quizzers are matched with other quizzers to see who can answer the most questions in a series of 15-question quiz rounds. This is done on a weekly basis during Quiz practice, monthly at local tournaments, and annually at Conference/Regional quizzes and Quiz Finals.
